Program Overview & Spring 2026 schedule
North Portland Soccer Club’s recreational program is an introductory soccer program designed for children 1st-8th grade. If your child is new to the sport, plays seasonally, or has never played on a team before, this program is for you! For our long time members, NOPOSC has been able to help them bridge the gap between recreational soccer and competitive club soccer.
Registration for our Spring 2026 season is now closed.
Practices locations and times will vary and be dependent on the voluntary coaches availability. Practice information will not be known until March. Games will always be on Saturdays between 8am-5pm and can be at at any park within the Portland city limits. Here is the official play dates for Spring 2026:
April 4th, 11th, 18th, and 25th
May 2nd and 9th
Six games are guaranteed in the season. May 16th will be used to fill in an 7th game as needed.
Team Formations
Returning players have priority to be placed on the team they played on the previous season if they register by the deadline. After that, the Club Registrar will assign all U8-U14 players to teams according to the following criteria and in the following order:
Roster availability, including the balance of roster. The registrar follows the guidelines outlined in the PYSA Registrar’s Manual to determine roster size.
Registration date.
Coach, player, or team request
If a player requests a coach/player that cannot be accommodated due to a full roster, the registrar will place the player on a team that needs players
For U7 teams (forming for Fall) the Registrar follows the following process for team assignment:
Coaches paired with Assistant Coaches and their child player.
Player requests according to the registration date.
Roster size
School affiliation
Player and team requests are not a guarantee. Late registrations will be accepted with a $15 fee if roster space allows. No scholarships are given after the deadline.

Our club is the perfect place to start. Many of our players will be participating for the first time as well.

Our registration fee is $140 per player. However, we do offer scholarships for any families in need. You can find more on our scholarship page!

Yes, scholarships are provided on an as-needed basis. Please complete our scholarship application and our Program Director will contact you shortly.

The season will take place on Saturdays between late August and early November in the Fall. The Spring season runs from April to May.

Games: U7 (1st grade) - U14 (8th grade) will play on Portland Parks & Rec fields within the Portland city limits.
Practices: our practices happen at Parks and/or schools located in North Portland.

Games are scheduled by PYSA, and typically occur on Saturdays (and rare Sundays) from 8am to 5pm. PYSA schedules are typically released two weeks before the season begins, and, when posted, can be found on the PYSA website here.

About an hour. You should plan to arrive 20-30 minutes before each game. Coaches will send further instructions about when they’d like you to arrive.

The number of players varies by age group, but one of our guiding principles is that all players get equal playing time and are guaranteed at least half a game.

Typically, yes. Should you have further questions, please contact PYSA (our parent/umbrella organization) for their gender-related guidelines.

We hope so! We'll do our absolute best to place your child with their team, teammate, or coach preference. Just be sure to enter that info during registration. Please be aware that teams are gender specific and that your preferences, are in-fact preferences, and certainly not a guarantee. We'd greatly appreciate your flexibility and understanding as our volunteer registrars and coaches do their best to balance the concerns of all our families.

Believe us when we say we don't like it either! However, in order to schedule parks/fields across Portland and organize hundreds of teams by mid August, you can understand why PYSA requires us to register all our teams by early August.

You will receive a confirmation email to the email address provided at registration. Please be certain to double-check your spam/junk email folders. Please contact us immediately if you do NOT receive a confirmation email after completing registration.

No, nothing additional is needed. Your assigned parent/coach volunteers will get in-touch with you before the season starts.

Full refunds are available before the player has attended a game or practice AND before the season has started. Partial refunds are available after the player has attended a game or practice OR after the season has started. There is a $15 administration fee associated with all refunds.

Once you register and our club registrar assigns your child to a team, you'll receive a Blue Sombrero Team Invitation via email from North Portland Soccer Club. You should expect this email three weeks before the season begins. Once you accept the email invitation you'll be able to communicate with your team and get important info like the team name and who the parent volunteers are.

Once an age group reaches capacity, a wait list is enabled and players can register for the wait list. The registration for the wait list is free, and players are added to the wait list for their age group in order of registration. If you want to know your kid's spot on the wait list, please email our Program Director (omar@northportlandsoccer.com). Typically, only 1-3 spots open up in any age group, and parents/guardian(s) may want to consider other options (see below for options). Once a spot opens up in the age group, our registrar volunteers assign a player to a team. Parent/guardian(s) receive an automated email inviting them to confirm registration and pay. They also receive an automated invite to register on Blue Sombrero.

Games: U7 (1st grade) - U14 (8th grade) players will need a uniform along with soccer cleats, shin guards, and socks. We also recommend a light sweatshirt without zippers or buttons just in case.
Practices: players can wear comfortable clothing to practice along with shin guards, soccer socks, and cleats.

We recommend a backpack or soccer bag, water bottle, light snack, a rain jacket, and a soccer ball (size will vary based on age-group).

Please plan to play rain or shine. In the case of inclement weather, PYSA and/or NOPOSC will send a cancellation notice via email or cancel as needed on-site.
